Mother of four killed in crash near Trail

A mother is dead and her four children are in hospital after a weekend crash north of Trail. The B.C. highway patrol says the head-on crash at about 5 p.m. on Saturday on Highway 22 involved a northbound Ford pickup that drove into the oncoming lane and hit a southbound Chevrolet SUV driven by a 34-year-old woman, who was killed instantly. Her four kids, ages eight to 14, were all sent to hospital, but their injuries aren't life-threatening. The driver of the pickup was uninjured. RCMP Cpl. Mike Halskov said all those involved in the collision are from the area. He said driver impairment has been ruled out as a factor, but investigators are seeking witnesses and dashcam footage of how the pickup was being driven before the crash. The B.C. highway patrol in Nelson and crash analysts continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call 250-3545180 and cite file No. 2022-5332.
