Proud to be a Canadian
Lois Avison, R.N., B.ED., White Rock
Reading the editorial pages recently, people writing seem to be full of angst, mostly about the rules and regulations restricting them in their daily lives.
Canada, one of the freest countries to live in, has placed restrictions on us to keep us safe from all the adversity around us, including the administrations of vaccines. Think of all the thousands of lives saved because the law says we must wear seatbelts when driving.
We are in the seventh wave of the coronavirus now. This fall, earlier restrictions may have to be reinstated, as the BA.5 variant is even more contagious.
If you find it difficult living here with some restriction, try living in a war-torn country or an undemocratic country ruled by a despot. Employment insurance, old age security, aid for the needy and universal health care are all available in Canada. Not so in many other countries.
To all the unbelievers who tend to be anti-everything, I'd suggest they give their heads a shake and realize how lucky we are.
