HONOURING THE LEGACY OF DR. DJAVAD MOWAFAGHIAN

It is with deep respect we commemorate the incredible life and legacy of Dr. Djavad Mowafaghian, a visionary philanthropist whose passion for transforming the lives of children brought new hope to all of us. Driven by his kindness and generosity–attributes deeply rooted within

him and his family, Dr. Mowafaghian created significant changes in health and education that greatly improved the lives of children in BC and across

the globe. Children have always been at the epicentre of Dr. Mowafaghian’s inspiration to give back. He built schools, hospitals and research centres across three continents, taking on some of the world’s greatest challenges with love and purpose.

The impact Dr. Mowafaghian had on BC Children’s Hospital is beyond measure. During a hospital tour in 2006, Dr. Mowafaghian made a

$1 million gift. At the end of this tour, inspired by the kids he met and connected with, his donation immediately grew to $6 million and the Djavad Mowafaghian Wing was named in his honour. The gift transformed the oncology unit into a welcoming, healing environment that significantly improved the hospital experience for kids in the oncology outpatient unit. It has been our privilege to work closely with Dr. Mowafaghian and his foundation for over two decades and bear witness to his unwavering commitment to children. His support of nearly $18 million to numerous major initiatives at the hospital, included a $4 million gift to help build the Teck Acute Care Centre—recognized through the naming of the Djavad Mowafaghian Child Care Centre; the construction of the Healthy Minds Centre; and the advancement of critical research across a range of

childhood diseases, to name only a few.

Dr. Mowafaghian’s generosity was grounded in his dedication to improving the future for kids. Thank you, “Dr. M,” for your monumental impact and kindness to all. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
