Lightning dealt with myriad injuries

Breaks, sprains, tears hurt team in playoffs: GM

Injuries played a role as the Tampa Bay Lightning fell short in their bid to win three straight championships.

GM Julien BriseBois updated the status of star centres Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov and others on Tuesday, two days after a 2-1 season-ending loss to Colorado in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.

BriseBois said Point sustained a significant quad tear in his leg in Game 7 of the first round against Toronto. He sat out for 10 games, returned for Games 1 and 2 against the Avalanche and then didn't play again.

Kucherov suffered a sprained MCL during the Final. He was limited to a goal and three assists in the series against the Avalanche.

Injuries also affected Bolts forwards PierreEdouard Bellemare

(MCL), Brandon Hagel (broken foot), Corey Perry (shoulder), Anthony Cirelli (shoulder), Nick Paul (shoulder, MCL), and defenceman Ryan McDonagh (finger).

BriseBois said all of the players are expected to be healthy in time for next season.

Red Bull terminated the contract of Formula One test and reserve driver Juri Vips on Tuesday for using a racial slur during an online gaming stream.

“The team does not condone any form of racism,” Red Bull tweeted.

The 21-year-old Estonian was suspended by Red Bull last week pending an investigation into the language he used. Vips had apologized for his actions.

Vips stepped in for Red Bull's F1 driver Sergio Perez in the first practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix last month and finished last.

Vips has three podium finishes this season in F2.

Outfielder Stephen Piscotty was activated from the 10-day injured list by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday after recovering from a strained left calf.

Infielder Jonah Bride was put on the 10-day IL, retroactive to Monday, a day after he strained his right shoulder in a collision with Chad Pinder.

Piscotty was batting .225 with a home run and three RBIs in 14 games when he was placed on the IL May 8 retroactive to May 7. He was 8-for-21 (. 381) with a double and RBI during a five-game minor league injury rehabilitation assignment.
