Building stacked pigeonholes will lead to ongoing disparity
Re: Vancouver has an obligation to plan for density
I beg to differ with Robert Macdonald. Lothar Wiwjorra made an excellent point in the short-sightedness of Vancouver's city council and the current planners. If you want L.A. or Dallas, keep on going down this road. But if we want a more balanced sense of community, then we should take a step back and ask ourselves, “Do we want housing for the sake of housing, or neighbourhood communities?” The latter should be balanced and contain a variety of housing stock, allowing a variety of residential options to all levels of society. Building stacked pigeonholes to live in only provides economic disparity down the road.
