Aggravated assault conviction in stabbing

A man has been convicted of aggravated assault in the near-fatal stabbing of another man a year ago. New Westminster police said the stabbing was reported at about 2 a.m. on May 29, 2021, just outside the Skytrain station on Columbia Street. A man had life-threatening stab wounds in the stomach and back. On Wednesday, Murid Ghulam was found guilty of one count of aggravated assault in relation to the stabbing. “Although Mr. Ghulam and the victim are associated to known Lower Mainland gangs, investigators could not confirm the motive behind the stabbing,” NWPD Sgt. Sanjay Kumar said in a news release announcing the conviction.
