Kamloops search volunteer loses dog
Eight-year-old Gertie, a trained search dog that was a fixture on dozens of missions for Kamloops Search and Rescue in recent years, has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver. Her handler, Michelle Liebe Hofstee, is being offered condolences from around the search volunteer community. Gertie was certified as a rescue dog in 2016 and has joined many lengthy searches, including one for missing B.C. cowboy Ben Tyner, who disappeared under suspicious circumstances in 2019.
